About

Τσίμπι τσίμπι κόρακα,

πού τα πας τα πρόβατα,

κάτω στα λακώματα,

πού ‘χουν και νερό να πιούνε

κι ΑΣΚΙΑΝΟ να κοιμηθούνε.

Our Cretan grandfather used to sing to his grandchildren about the cattle catching their breath in Askianos, thus keeping alive, throughout his life, his adoration for the island and its people… Through stories, music, flavours and habits, he transmitted this love to his daughter, who always felt that her roots lie in Crete yet lacked the piece of land to put them down. This piece of land in the small village of Listaros, with its traditional fortified architecture, its narrow, winding alleys perched on the slopes of the Asterousia Mountains and gazing over the endless blue sky has long been waiting for its new owners to breathe new life into it.

“From our first visit to the plot, our aim was to highlight the relationship we wanted to create between the new emerging volumes, the morphology of the landscape, the view and the architecture of Crete.

The architectural ensemble is composed of two individual volumes, which, however, appear to form a unified whole, while a cobbled street serves to separate them.

The purity of the lines, the modern construction methods using local materials and the attention to detail (modern wooden frames, arched entrances with hewn stone and metal details, concealed gutters, etc.), as well as the handmade terracotta tiles in the kitchens, folding shutters in the bedrooms, vintage electrical appliances and built-in furniture with authentic Cretan fabrics and cushions, set the tone of the exterior and interior of the house.”
